Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG)
What is the AIG Program?
The Northampton County Schools Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Program identifies and supports students who demonstrate high academic ability, intellectual aptitude, or potential for advanced learning. The program provides differentiated and enriching learning experiences that promote critical thinking, creativity, and continued academic growth.
AIG service options may include:
- Differentiated Instruction: Learning experiences that provide greater depth, complexity, and academic challenge.
- Flexible and Cluster Grouping: Opportunities for students with similar academic needs to work together for targeted instruction and enrichment.
- Advanced Learning Opportunities: Opportunities for acceleration, advanced coursework, enrichment, independent study, and other appropriately challenging learning experiences.
- Talent Development: Opportunities to recognize and nurture the potential of students who demonstrate advanced learning characteristics, including students in the early grades.
- Enrichment Opportunities: Academic competitions, projects, problem-solving activities, special-interest opportunities, and other experiences that extend learning beyond the traditional classroom.
AIG Identification
Northampton County Schools uses multiple measures when considering students for AIG identification and services. These measures may include aptitude, academic achievement, classroom performance, student work, teacher observations, and other indicators of advanced learning potential.
Identification and services are provided in accordance with the Northampton County Schools AIG Local Plan and North Carolina requirements for academically or intellectually gifted education.
