A new approach of attending school is now a reality for Northampton County Schools. Beginning in the 2020-21 school year, Northampton County Schools has established a K-12 Virtual Academy to give parents and guardians a new option for their students to receive instruction from their home setting. Students will be instructed by North Carolina certified teachers. The NCS K-12 Virtual Academy is not limited to currently enrolled students in the district. Any K-12 student residing in Northampton County is eligible for enrollment in the academy.

Students enrolling in the NCS K-12 Virtual Academy will be officially enrolled in their district-assigned school. Students will be eligible to be a part of any school athletic team, band, clubs, or any school-sponsored activity. High school students may take one or two scheduled courses that offered by the school, but not may not exceed two courses.

The NCS K-12 Virtual Academy would address the following for families residing in Northampton County:

• Provide an alternative approach to learning for families that may not wish for their children to return to the physical classroom setting because of the potential threat of COVID-19;
• Offer private school, home school and charter school families the flexibility for learning options and experiences through the curricular choices within the school district;
• Provide learning opportunities for students who are medically fragile and could benefit from alternative options.

The NCS K-12 Virtual Academy will utilize the EdOptions Academy™ platform. All services, including Exceptional Children and ESL, will be available to students enrolled in the academy along with their parents. Enrollment in the NCS K-12 Virtual Academy will be limited to 50 slots. A virtual town hall will be held soon to explain the process to parents.
