English as a Second Language Program Goals
Northampton County Schools is committed to providing a quality education program to all students. Two languages other than English are spoken by English Learners at Northampton County Schools: Spanish and Arabic. Currently one ESL teacher works with 31 English Learners (K-12). Our main goal is to accelerate English Learners’ acquisition of the English Language, so English Learners can be academically and socially successful at our schools.
English Language Development Standards
- English Language Learners communicate for Social and Instructional purposes within the school setting.
- English Language Learners communicate information, ideas and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Language Arts.
- English Language Learners communicate information, ideas and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Mathematics.
- English Language Learners communicate information, ideas and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Science.
